Montana x Berlin Boombox
At StreetLove, we love to speak about artists we like and sometimes about products we find interesting – on an artistic point of view, of course. Today, we wanted to highlight The Berlin Boombox which is at first sight a mobile speaker inspired by the old school ghettoblasters of the 1980s, but which can quickly become a piece of art when artists play with it and customize their own.
The concept is simple: bringing together the classic boombox style with today’s audio technology. The audio technology delivers powerful sound to your smartphone (no matter if Apple, Android or Windows phones).
Welcome to the new Old School!
The Berlin Boombox did a collaboration with Montana and asked artists from all over the world to customize Boomboxes for them, using the special MONTANA Boombox kit.

About The Berlin Boombox: boomboxes are designed by Berlin-based designer Axel Pfaender. He decided it was time for a cool and fun mobile speaker – a soundsystem you want to show off, like back in the days. It looks like a fresh approach to the design of mobile speakers.
And the fun thing is – you can customize your own!
The Berlin Boombox comes as a kit consisting of a die-cut cardboard structure and all electronic parts. Assembly is easy, glue-free, tool-free and takes only a couple of minutes.
You don’t need any no geeky knowledge to build the Berlin Boombox.
A construction manual is included with the kit and guides you step-by-step to complete your first DIY soundsystem.
At a sustainability level – it is less garbage! The Berlin Boombox is made of recycled cardboard (Brown colorway: 100% recycled cardboard. Other colors: partially recycled cardboard) and can itself be recycled. It only contains a small portion of plastic and electronic waste. With the packaging we also avoid unnecessary shrink-wrapping, plastic materials and the like.
So, when do you start to make your own? Waiting for photos of your creations!!
